setting up home wireless network

I just purchased a dell laptop with VISTA SP1 OS, I am setting up my first wireless network at home and purchased a NetGear wireless router.

I have been reading about various wireless security options WPA/AES/ etc.

Is there any suggestions on setting this up or should I use my NetGear instructions?
