    Solid State Drives (SSD)

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting real excited about SSDs coming out in high capacities and the ability to put them in a RAID array because...
...if I were to have that on my system, it would mean that I must have won the freakin' lottery and money no longer means anything to me.

Nevertheless, I say that within 5 years regular hard drives will be quite passé.

Here's some folks [Samsung sponsored] who went real overboard with them....unbelievably awesome performance figures.

Edit: Looking at the vid once more....it shows the IT dude defragging the drive[s]. Wrong answer....not supposed to defrag SSD drives. He probably didn't didn't do any real damage, but it is unadvisable to defrag them.

He just cut the lifespan of the drive. What a moron.

Still too rich for my blood. I'll stick with my Velociraptor for a while.

Agreed....I'll probably wait until they get up to at least 500 GB before even considering a purchase. If they have a two-for-one sale that would even be better....

I have two 300GB Velociraptors in RAID 0...that's about as close as I am to get to SSD for awhile I think.

I just read that Windows 7 will automatically disable the defragger when it detects installation on an SSD. Very smart, Microsoft!

Nimo N152B (AMD R5, W11H) and plenty of other legacy systems :-)
