My PC is only 4 weeks old and having a subscription with McAfee Online I downloaded Activeshield.

The problem is my PC progressively slows down when installed. If left overnight with just a screensaver running the clock can lose up to 2hrs and the PC is virtually unusable. Once I needed to reset the clock in the Bios. The slowdown is evident within minutes with the odd choppy sound from the screensaver wav file.

At it's worst, when an application is opened and the clock is on the screen, you can physically see the second-hand stop.

I have uninstalled McAfee 4 times and each time the problem disappears.

My Start-Up only has only Systray and Scanreg ticked, and the only applications running are Explorer and Systray, along with 3 associated McAfee programs in each.

My PC is a Dell 8100 series, 1.7MHz, 256MB Ram, Windows ME and a Santa Cruz soundcard (this has been renewed as I thought this was initial culprit)

Can Anyone help?

Go to the Mcafee message boards and post your question in the section of whatever version you have. Techsupport or someone is good about getting answers fast.
You might want to check the hot topics on that same board and look for your condition.

Turn off "check all files" in McAfee Activeshield; check programs and doc only.
