Hi, the roar of the mighty lion has drawn me back to this once fertile land, now a sorry backwater.I fear the great beast has lost his pride and now laments the lost opportunities of youth. As one who has also suffered the dreaded DOB (date of birth) disease I can only offer empathy. To me the problem is "supermarket syndrome" you know when the shopper knows where the eggs are on the shelf where the bottle of medicine (liquor) is, etc etc they come along and move it. Why call Add\ Remove programs this anymore, it made too much sense we had to call it programs and features.. keep them shoppers guessing, this I believe is called marketing. Long live the dying breed of Bistro's who will always remain the only sane in an insane world.
The accounting software I support uses SQL databases…When upgrading to a newer version – the last thing it does is update the database.
A nice little progress bar comes up with the title “Creating Database.” OMG – don’t create a db – upgrade it PLEASE….Depending on the size of the db, the title will switch to Updating Database after several minutes.
Doesn’t matter how many times I’ve done this…..the Creating part always freaks me out..(the creating part actually means it’s creating a backup of the db)
Then there's the part where the software I support will also constantly say (Not Responding) in the programs main title bar...It does this when doing large tasks...Its the only software I've ever used that will say not repsonding when it is fact working properly.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.
1. First to market wins. It is better to introduce a buggy product early than to introduce a bug-free product later. Once a user has learned a product it is damn near impossible to sell him a replacement.
2. All software projects are underfunded and understaffed. Management would never approve a project if they knew the true cost.
3. All development schedules are impossible to meet (see Rule 1) so managers say "We'll fix it later".
4. "Fix it later" projects are never approved. Everyone is working on the next buggy application.
Jeeez, what a bunch of wimps. Be grateful it works at all.
