[RESOLVED] XFX mobo drivers?

I just received all of the ordered components for my friend's new build.
I bought a BareBones Package that included:


XFX MG-61Mi-7059 Motherboard - nForce 610i/7050, Socket 775

Intel Pentium Dual Core E2200 Processor BX80557E2200 - 2.20GHz

Kingston PC6400 800MHz 4GB DDR2 Desktop Memory


and I upgraded the PSU:
BFG GS-550 ATX Power Supply - 550W, SATA-Ready

and bought:
Galaxy GeForce 8400 GS Video Card - 512MB GDDR2, PCI Express 1.0 x16

Installed everything in less than an hour and loaded my Slipstreamed XP SP3 / IE7 (man I love the nLite SlipStream tool, saves lots of time!!)

So XP installed great and the PC booted right up.
First thing I went to do was install the mobo Drivers from the CD, then I could connect to the internet and download the latest drivers for everything else.
BUMMER, the mobo drivers CD has a crack in it and I seriously doubt it will load, so I attempted to look them up from another PC, but I cannot find drivers for this mobo on XFX's site. I spent 1/2 last nite and another 1/2 today on their site. What a terrible design, cannot even find their drivers!! Maybe I'm just missing it!

I also tried to Google them, but could only find 'net stores and software to buy drivers or find them.

Any help or suggestions to find the XFX mobo drivers?

Saw something else, but I'm hoping the mobo drivers or bios upgrade will address it.

I installed 4g Ram, but it's only reporting about 3.3g. Is this common? is there a fix? (XP Home SP3)

32 bit versions of Windows will not see 4GB of RAM. 3.3GB is about right.

The 4GB limit is not a new problem. We are only seeing that now, since people commonly use that amount.

If the XFX board uses an Nvidia chipset, go to the Nvidia website to download their drivers. I never use drivers off the included CD, since they are almost always outdated.

I had heard about the 3.x gig Ram limit, but I was in denial.

I think I found the drivers on the nvidia site (no thanks to XFX, their site sux for mobo support!), but Thanks to you for the link.

I just wanted to load the mobo drivers from the CD so I could setup the Lan Port to connect to the 'net and download the latest drivers.
It's a pain going to another PC, downloading them, copying to a Jumpdrive, and then loading them (hmmm, I hope it will recognize my USB port / Jumpdrive!)

Now I need to figure out how to turn off the on-board video so it can use the new video card. It's installed, but i didn't see it in the Device Manager (I loaded the drivers already).

You usually find it in the BIOS Setup, under "Integrated peripherals".

I looked there, but I'll try again.

Do I need to disable it before the video card will work? or should they both work at the same time, then disable it? (I didn't see the new video card when I looked in Device Manager, but I double check that too)

Normally, you uninstall the on board video drivers, shutdown, install the new card and connect to it, boot to BIOS [setup] and disable the on board, Save and Exit.
But up and then when in windows, install the drivers.

Read the manual and it will tell you where it is that you disable it.

If you can't find anything for it, then there's a good chance that the mobo will auto-detect the new card and disable the onboard. If that's the case then you don't need to do anything other than install the drivers.

Another fruitless attempt to locate XFX drivers on their website. Brand new video card (and I know it's not too new to be listed) wasn't even in their selection of products to register! (GeForce 8400 GS, part# 84GFE6HDFEXN). Heading back to nvidia, I found the current drivers.
I feel sorry for any folks that expect to buy & install this! No printed manual, it's supposed to be on the CD, but when I serached it, there were 9 manuals included and NONE for this product (I browsed every one of them).
Great product, POOR support.

Thanks for the help, worked like clockwork.
Uninstalled the nvida on-board video drivers.
Checked the bios, graphics was set automatically to PCI-E.
Rebooted, works beautifully!
(this also freed up another 160K+ of RAM, was previously at 2.87gig, now running at a full 3gig of Ram)
