How to set up a web cam as a video camera for security?

Hi.

Is it possible instead of actual surveillance camera, use my web cam to hook it up and from my house, see what is happening where I put it up?

Just like when you access those cameras online randomly, through google search.

Because I already can remote desktop the server from my house from a very distant location, ~10km distance, using wireless.
