[RESOLVED] File Or Directory Is Corrupted
Error Message I get when trying to access a folder to view picture there:
Message box title: Location is not available.
Message: C:\User\User\Pictures\Christmas\Group1 is not accessible.
The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.
Buttons: OK
If I try to delete this folder, I get the following message:
Message box title: Delete folder
Message: An unexpected error is preventing the operation. Make note of this error code, which might be useful if you get additional help to resolve this problem: Error 0x80070091: The directory is not empty.
C:\User\User\Pictures\Christmas\Group1
Date created: 12/25/2008 10:45 AM
Buttons: Try Again, Cancel
Luckily, I have a backup of these files. This is the 2nd time that I have had this issue with items in my Picture folder. The last time, I was able to delete the folder and restore a backup copy. This time I am unable to even do that.
How can I fix this issue? I'd prefer not to have to delete a folder in this instance. I'd rather fix the original issue as opposed to deleting and restoring.
If I can provide additional detail, let me know. I am running Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1, 64 Bit.
Thanks in advance for your help.

It's not practical to try and fix a corrupted file or folder, especially if you have a backup. Have you tried deleting the folder in Safe Mode? If you have no luck doing that, you could try Move On Boot, though I'm not 100% certain if it works in Vista:
Move on boot

I've notice that you got C:\User\User\Pictures\Christmas\Group1. Is your signon into your manchine as User? I would suggest that you uses something like a your name or company name. I uses Dee Family has mine so that it shows C:\User\Dee Family\Pictures\

I have not tried anything through Safe Mode yet. A few things that I have read about some of these issues indicate to me that this may not really be a corrupted situation, almost more like some kind of issue with Vista. Haven't had much chance to dive into it further, which is part of reason I posted the message here. When I get a chance, I will do further digging myself.
Occasionally I get a message about using chkdsk too. I have tried that, but it does not appear to run.
As far as the C:\User\User goes, I believe it is that way because the 2nd User was the default initial user as the machine was loaded. User is not what I really use to login. I don't believe that has anything to do with this issue though.
Thanks for reviewing this and providing your feedback.

I would check the folder path anyways, and when you get to the last folder, check the properties on it and see if it password protected. This be whats causing the error message: Error Message I get when trying to access a folder to view picture there:
Message box title: Location is not available.
Message: C:\User\User\Pictures\Christmas\Group1 is not accessible.

It is not password protected.
When I view the properties, I am seeing that it is reporting 0 files and 0 bytes for that folder. Not sure why that is, but am sure it is part of the problem.
Still unable to delete.
Have not tried Safe Mode yet.
Thanks.

I basically corrected this issue following these directions: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/13...tup-vista.html
I was also having problems running chkdsk as it would not run. Once I got through the items from the above link, my pc was back in order and the folder/files having issues were back in order. Chkdsk, when it finally ran, found a number of errors and fixed the issues.
Hopefully my findings are helpful for someone else.
Thanks,
Jody Wood
