Interchanging XP and Vista Screensavers?
Is it possible to swap XP and Vista screensavers between the two and have them work properly.
If so, can you just copy them into C:\windows\system32?
Also, I've Googled "tweeking Vista bubbles screensaver" with many hits. Does MS have a hidden way in the registry or do I have to do my own tweeking?
Thanks,
Mike

Vista screensavers (that is, the ones made by Microsoft) to XP is NO; XP screensavers to Vista is a crapshoot.....some work and some do not. I used to have 35 kilotons of screensavers, but I don't use them any more. It's just as easy to turn the monitor off when i leave the computer for awhile, and I don't like the screensaver coming on at inopportune moments. I do remember that quite awhile back I transfered several favorite downloaded screensavers over to Vista from XP, only to find that almost all of them no longer worked.

Thanks for the info! I don't sit there and stair at the screensavers anyway and I'm leary about downloading any of the web.
I may tweek the way the bubbles look, but that's about it.

And with good reason. Back in the Win 95 and 98 days, there was a plethora of good, free screensavers to be had. It seemed to me that starting with the introduction of XP, those neato screensaver sites began to fade away, only to be slowly replaced by adware and, unfortunately, malware screensaver sites. Google "free screensavers" sometime and then read the fine print on those sites....pretty sad.

FYI....Wincustomize has some fairly decent screensavers without all the fluff and additional programs accompanying other screensavers. Just check them on their individual pages to check compatibility with Vista.
