I don't think the attachment was there. I cannot figure out how I can let you see these errors. Can you advise.

In eventviewer check if the same error comes up frequently.
If so, doubleclick that error and click on the button with 'two pages' this will copy the error.
You can paste it here.

Coach17--I suspect this is not really pertinent anymore, but
I am not sure what you mean by the "Start-in" line?
Look at the image I post earlier. The line/box "Start in:" close to the middle of the image.

My shortcut is set up properly and when I open it up to windows explorer my system locks up. Where do we go from here?

Something is badly corrupted. I still think using the System File Checker is the best option, but you could try System Restore to roll back to a point before the problem started. It's a bit hit and miss with this kind of problem, but you might get lucky.

I have had this issue for quite some time so System Restore is not going to work. Any other suggestions?

I was 'hoping' for more specific errors.
Are you using XP Home or Pro?
The Application Management service terminated with the following error:
The specified module could not be found.
Application Management service is only for XP Pro.
Try to disable it if you have XP Pro.
Start > Run > type in: services.msc > doubleclick Application Management
and set Startup type to disabled.
Might help....
Another thought; it could be a corrupt item in contextmenu.
Download ShellExView and temporarily disable all non-microsoft extensions.
Other then that I think you should go for a sfc /scannow

Ok, I have Windows XP Home. I did your first scenario Start > Run > type in: services.msc > doubleclick Application Management
and set Startup type to disabled. After I disabled this I re-booted and when I went into Windows Explorer everything worked fine. The issue of freezing up the system was when I clicked on the "C" drive plus sign. Everything appears to be fine now.
Can you just explain why disabling startup type did the trick?
Thanks for everyones help, I knew something would work eventually.

Glad to hear it's fixed.
Application Management is a service wich doesn't belong to XP Home.
Calling a non existant service probably got the explorer upset.
