    Resolved [RESOLVED] Updating MS Defender

    I keep getting the same update for MS Defender
    It will install and say Successfully updated your computer.
    And a minute later I'll have the same update.

    Any ideas on how to stop this?

    Thanks
    Rod

    First thing I'd try is removing the current signature file and then try the update again. To do this:
    1. Close Windows Defender

    2. Click Start | Run, type (or copy & paste)
      Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C}
      and then click OK

    3. Click Start | Programs | Windows Defender

    4. Click the Help options arrow next to the Windows Defender Help icon, click About Windows Defender, and then click Check for Updates.

    If that doesn't work, maybe try an uninstall/reinstall:
    1. Click Start | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Windows Defender | Remove

    2. Click the following link to download and install Windows Defender

    In searching for help with a Windows Defender problem that I am having, I came across this thread. My problem is with the update. It will not update even when I do it manually. It keeps telling me that there is no updates available. I have a yellow exclamation mark over the icon in the right bottom corner of my computer all the time. I thought about uninstalling and reinstalling but it isn't listed in add and remove programs. It came installed on my computer running Windows Vista Home Premium. I also tried to just install the program over this one using the link in the above suggestion but I get a message that states that Windows Defender comes installed in Vista and is already on my computer. Any suggestions on how to get this program active again?

    Thanks Spyware Dr, that worked. Do I have to do this everytime new definitions are available or will it work the right way now?

    Hopefully the update has repaired the problem and, as Train says, "it should work now".
