    Transferring files

    A freind bought a new E machine and wants me to transfer the data from his old computer to the new emachine. He has windows XP and the new machine I am sure it is Vista, What is the best way to and easiest way to do that. IE[programs and email and Files ECT]

    Probably the easiest is to remove the hdd from the old computer and use something like these.

    Vista has a windows file transfer,migrate program. Is this good enuf is should I use another program

    Copy / paste works for data, but they will need to reinstall all programs. Can not transfer them.

    I recently used the Windows file/transfer wizard and it worked fine for email settings (outlook express) Browser favorites, and general computer prefs. Programs need to be reinstalled.

    I burned the data file to a CD to complete the transfer.
