Want to transfer data periodically from one XP to another XP computer
I have two XP computers sitting next to each other. I need to transfer files from My Documents in one computer to My Documents in the other computer. Networking is not working or convenient. I have read about the Easy Transfer Cables, but this seems to be for XP to Vista. I want something fast, cheap, and easy to allow me to transfer from XP to XP. I do not want to use flash drives or CDs. They take too much time.

I would fix the networking issue and use an application like SyncBack that will sync the folders almost automatically.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

While using something via USB would work, it's a hassle compared to networking. I agree that I'd do all I could to fix the network. (They aren't the same but if a transfer cable would work, wouldn't networking???)

I agree, fix the network. What happens when you try to connect them over the LAN?

I was networking, before installing a new virus-protector software. Since I am satisfied with the virus protection, I do not want to change it. I could probably spend a heck of a lot of time trying to re-set up the networking capabilities, but hoped for something like transfer cables.
I personally set up a network quite some time ago. It stopped working. A tech guy set up my network 5 months ago. Now, it has stopped working. Tired of messing around with a network, if a cable transfer will work just as well.

And the new AV is?
Sounds like you installed a suite and the firewall is all that needs configuring.
Yes, unless configured, the firewall will even stop a laplink setup.

That's why I gave up on those security suites long ago, they are all a royal pain. I've never found a single one that didn't block something it shouldn't I invested in a decent router with a proper hardware firewall, plus I use the built-in Windows firewall as a second line of defence, and I never get these problems any more.
If you don't want to use the normal LAN, then something like this would be a second choice:

Or there is always sneakernet, using a flash drive, of course.

I installed AVG internet Security and agree that AVG is blocking my networking. Sounds like I am being told to finagle with the firewall settings of AVG. Sounds like a good idea. Will play with for a while and see what happens.

Cannot get AVG to work with the second computer.
Both computers are as identical as I can make them. AVG was installed on both. Networking works on computer 1, but not on computer 2.
I took a look at the AVG firewall settings for computer 1, which was set up for a Small Home Network, with firewall active. Networking works on computer 1.
I then set up computer 2, for a Small Home Network, with firewall active. Networking does not work on computer 2.

Double check, you might have missed something.
