MS Word is Corrupting documents
A couple of months ago I found that some of the Word documents I had were being corrupted in that I could not Save, do a Save As or even open the .doc file without getting a corruption notice and telling me to use the repair recovery tool in Word.
I did a repair installation of Word from the 2003 Microsoft Office Basic Edition but it did not seem to have any effect.
Would an uninstall of Word followed by a reboot and a reinstallation be any different than the repair installation I did, or do I need to uninstall all of Office and then do a reinstall?
I am fully updated as to XP and Office and Kaspersky shows that I have a clean system.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A reinstall isn't going to help any docs that already spit out the corruption message.
Do you get the message on any New Doc you create? Zapping the file Normal.dot is something you might want to consider. It is known to cause problems and doesn't get replaced with a repair install.
Are the docs that do have the message docs that you created on this machine?
Am sure you know that you'll get the corruption message if your pc shuts down when you have a doc open...Faulty ram is also a possibility if new docs have the same issue.
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

It happens with documents that were created on my computer months ago when I did not have the problem and on documents that I created on other machines.
I close out Word before before shutting down Windows I do not have problems shutting down Windows. My RAM works fine with no errors noted.
I will try deleting Normal.dot and if that does not work I will then do an uninstall and reinstall of Word. After that the only thing left to do is either a fresh install of Windows and Office or just using Open Office from now on.
I will post back how it goes.
Thanks,

If something corrupted the doc files, all the reformats in world won't help.
If you copy one of the files to a pc without issues - does the corruption follow? If so, see the sentence above.

Once the file opens it generally gets corrupted I have found so taking it to another computer will show the corruption. If I take a file that has not yet been corrupted to another machine it stays good.
I believe that it is a problem with Word on my computer and not the files themselves unless they are opened by my Word. I will try as above to delete Normal.dot and if that does not work to do an uninstall and then reinstall of Word.

This would indicate the problem is with the actual doc file...If you create a file on another machine...it'll probably work on the machine in question.

A .doc file created on another computer works fine on the computer it was created on but when I open it on my computer it tends to get corrupted. It is therefore not the doc file that is the problem but rather Word.
I have zapped the Normal.dot file and so far all seems to be working. I will need to wait and see though.
Thanks for all of the input Steve
