    Powerbook help

Friend of mine has a powerbook G4. The pinwheel/hourglass was spinning nonstop and never ceased, so she shut it down. Now it turns on to a gray screen and goes no further. Any ideas? I know we have a lot of mac users here, and I know nothing about 'em. Thanks

Have you tried putting in the install disc and starting up with it in there holding the c key down? If it lets you get in there try to repair permissions and check the disc. If that doesn't help re install osX and start again.
