No image, just a little red cross

When I sometimes run an application (not IE) and have to tick a box, this is what I see:

No image where there is a little red cross inside a small white square. It can be annoying when I don't see if some entry has been ticked before.
    Thank you for any help.

what applications is this happening on? have you tried reinstalling the application? It looks like the image files for the tick boxes have been moved/removed or the application is just pointing to the wrong location

Andre--I cannot see most of what is printed in the image you have posted--too blurred. The "normal" RedX's usually denote an image that has not downloaded.
Right click on the RedX at top left|Show Picture. Any help?
If not, right click on the one at top left, then Properties. What do you see in the Address line? That is usually the URL for the site where the image is stored. Access it and see what you see. If you cannot see the image, I suspect the problem is with the coding for the message. Not much you can do about it.

In my experience what is hidden by the RedX really is not too important. (See for example the two at the bottom of your image. You really do not need the image.) What is important is what the message you are getting says. As mentioned, I cannot read it.
Perhaps some more info on the message and details on the programs when this occurs. Is it happening on installation of more than one?
