Did you try straight connection to the modem, bypassing router?

This moden/router was straight out of the box this morning.
I managed to get a D-Link tech on the the phone. Half hour later he decided that it was faulty. Even though all other pc's connected ok and this one laptop wouldn't after doing a few dos cmds and a ping his decision was that the router was faulty, it just would not recognise the laptop.
So i sent it back.
Wait and see how the replacement goes.

Your post is a perfect example for people, who don't believe in two things:
1. Bad, out-of-box, devices happen.
2. It's possible for router to be bad, even if other computers connected to the very same router, can connect.
Thanks for posting back. Bookmarked for "non-believers"

One bad port is all it takes. New router time for sure. Bought a couple for that very same reason.

Not Good
New D-LINK dsl 504t router/modem arrived to replace the other new one
D-LINK said was faulty.
No luck. Same thing. One laptop will not connect or be recognised by the router.
I havnt tried D-LINK again.
But before i do i am going to format and reinstall visat on the laptop in question just as a precaution.
I turned off the router firewall as well but it made no difference.
If the format fails that only leaves the router and i cant imagine 2 faulty routers in succession.
So that leaves something in the router blocking the laptop. But What?
Will post back after the laptop is formated.

Before you format, I'd call D-Link again.

I think i narrowed it down to network names
On all computers that are connected in the netywork and shareing center
at the top i have
this computer---------- Network----------------internet
On the laptop that doesnt have internet at the top i have
this computer----------unidentified network----------X---------internet
The problam is i think in the network names.
If i go down to unidentified network (private network) then over to customise
Network name comes up as unidentified network IT wont allow me to change the name to Network. All the other computers allow me to change this name.
So how can i change it?

I assume that the TCP/IP protocol is installed. What does "ipconfig /all" show?

I have given up.
I disconnected everything and put back the old speedstream modem, the
d-link 8 port router and the dlink 4 port switch.
Everything works perfectly.
Except i only have adsl and not adsl 2.
