Resolved [RESOLVED] ASUS 9800GT 1Gb Hybrid OC problem

    Hi guys.

Brand new card with Accelero/turbo module installed, 55C max temps.

Using Rivatuner 7.11 to OC. I seem to have hit a wall on the core. I can run at 745Mhz with no artifacts but when I try to go higher, it does not register, or stick. On the slider I can set it to 775 and apply the setting, but the OC does not show up in the monitoring tool, nor in ATiTool.

Neither will read anything higher than 745, even though the slider shows different.

I tried EVGA's Precision tool as well with the same results. As soon as I try to go above 745Mhz, the slider simply reset's to the previous highest setting (745). Sliders are unlinked.

I can get the memory to 1150Mhz and the same thing happens, the slider just resets.

Is there something in the registry that is preventing me going higher?

Note that I am getting ZERO artifacts at the 745/1800/1150 settings.

I have OC'd previously owned cards this same way and each card has artifacted when pushed too far.

Stock speeds on this card are 600/1500/900

    Thank's.

Guessing here, but wonder if a test with a house fan blowing into the case for addition cooling , might help out seeing as you are at 55 C already.

This card was running at almost 80C with no problem before I installed the Accelero . I really do not think it's an heat issue. 55C is a cool running card.
I'm thinking there is something written into it somewhere that prevents clocking it too high.

I can see why you changed. As for over clocking, there well may be. I have O/Ced anything for years.

I still get a kick out of it . Have had my 165 Opty running @ 3115Mhz already . Still pushing for more. Not bad from a stock 1800Mhz.

    You betya.

I am going to try the ASUS overclocking tool to see if that improves things. Have seen where these cards reach around the 850Mhz range, but that would be with a volt mod no doubt .

    Would have to be aftermarket.

I tried the Asus tool. The sliders top out at 750/2000/2200 and thats it. I topped all three out and checked for artifacts using ATiTool and ended up having to back off the shaders to 1850. Left the core at 750 and the memory at 2200 and the card runs sweet with no artifacts and 50C at 22C ambient.

The ASUS tool is better then. Good to know!

    750/1850/2200 vs 600/1500/900 is quite a difference.

Now wonder you can read hjt files so well.

Problem solved. It ended up being that the shaders needed to have the frequency increased before I could go any further on the core. Seems to be about 2 to 1 that they need to run. In other words, in order for me to run the core at say 800Mhz, I need to already have the shaders set to a minimum 1600Mhz.
If I set the shaders to 1000Mhz, I can then only get the core to run at 500Mhz or below.
