IE 7 freezes when 2nd tab activated

    Hello,

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520, Win XP Service Pack 3.

I can't give a specific date/incident when this happened but about 3 weeks ago my IE 7, which was working perfectly, would immediately freeze up the moment I clicked on a second tab.

Actually, since I had IE set to open with two tabs (aol and iGoogle) it would not even open fully. The result: as long as I only use one tab, it works fine.

Now if I wanted this I could have kept IE 6. I also could try Firefox (I've been mulling it over). But I would really like to find out what the problem is.

I haven't had any obvious antivirus activity but I did a full scan with Avast, Spybot, CCleaner, and Adaware. Not a hint of any evil doers.

Any ideas or thoughts on how to proceed? I did a complete removal of IE 7, and restored IE 6, as per the MS website. All went without a hitch. But I still get an immediate lock up when I try to open a new tab!!!

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Don

Toolman55--Try IE Tools|Internet Options|Advanced tab|Browsing section. Uncheck "Enable third third party extensions".
And/or run IE with no Add-Ons
One way is described here http://www.5starsupport.com/faq/ie7.htm#1-2

    Welshjim,

Thank you so much!!! The unchecking of "Enable third party extensions" did the trick. No problems now.

Thanks again for your help.....and to Virtual Dr.
