[RESOLVED] Keyboard & mouse weirdness
This was a new one on me...last nite the mouse suddenly decided not to scroll down a page...then shortly thereafter just froze up. Okay, I said, it was just a $10.00 optical mouse ...Microinv co....got it at WalMart...probably just need to get another mouse...no big deal. So I hooked up my other Microsoft laser and all was okay....until this morning. This laser mouse started changing web page whenever I tried to use the scroll wheel...I think that it was going backward to previous page...not sure about that, though.
I went into the mouse properties thinking that there was a setting for that feature that had somehow turned itself on...(computer possessed...ha !). But nothing there.
I have two systems hooked up with a KVM switch..thought I would switch over to other system and see what happens...same scroll problem.
Then....I realized that the caps lock function on the keyboard was backwards...caps lock gave small caps...caps lock off gave large caps...!
Okay..this was really getting to be kinda weird!
I Googled...not any info...
I re-booted my system and mouse & keyboard cleared up...strange...!!
The original optical mouse is working again..keyboard is not dyslexic anymore...weird...
I thought I would pass this weird situation along.

Corruption in the ram more than likely and a reboot as you found fixes things. But sometimes it takes a shutdown, wait 30 seconds [ so ram clears] and then boot back up to fix things.

Okay...that sounds logical enough...but both computers had the same scroll and caps lock problem. I will run memtest on both sets of ram anyway...still seems rather odd....but thankfully, all is back to normal.

Memtest and Windows Memory Diagnostic would not hurt anything.
Sorry, I was refering to driver corruption in the ram and now that you brought up the fact of "both computers had the same scroll and caps lock problem", I wounder if the tails maybe damaged inside? Might be time to replace both it the tails [ errrr cable ] are damaged.

Also, uninstalling and reinstalling the mouse drivers sometimes helps.

I had looked in device manager for any splats..found none....which doesn't necessarily mean that there was not a problem...but everything cleared up before I got to uninstalling drivers.
I haven't had the chance to run Memtest; and it sure seems odd if the cables on both systems started going bad at the exact same time...and both sets of cables are good round cables.
The only thing in common is the KVM switch, so I had wondered about that possibility.
I thought that the caps lock weirdness was peculiar and rather interesting. I had never heard of that happening.
Anywho...computers can be real weird at times.
Also...FWIW..I turn computers off at bedtime so there was nothing that had slowly been going crazy during the nite.
So far...so good...but if it happens again, I'll be sure & let ya'll know.

Do let us know!
A puzzle sometimes or the unplugging and replugging of the connectors cleaned the contacts so now they work.
I have to do that once or twice a year .
