    VERY IMPORTANT MS PATCH!

It was thrown at me about 8:45pm/pst tonight that there was a very important patch from Microsoft. I'm set for notify only and went to the Windoze update site and got it. Just a' bit ago,I got an email from 'Windows secrets' that I subscribe to and they were very adamant that it should be installed. You can read the full thing at this MS site ...

Looks like we might be seeing a new worm the size of Blaster in the next weeks or months on people's computers.

I hope it won't be that bad. A lot has changed since then -- NAT routers in the home are far more common, and there's a lot more awareness about having firewalls on PCs. It's still important to patch now and I'm sure there are a lot of people who will get hit, but I think in general people are a whole lot better mitigated against this sort of worm now than they were five years ago.

Thousands of servers at work are being patched this weekend, even that they're in a firewalled intranet. This way I found out that there's also a "crisis" priority level above "critical"

The guys over at Windows Secrets seem to think that this thing can explode...

There may not yet be any fast-moving worm built specifically to exploit this weakness. But the vulnerability is similar to the hole that was used by the MSBlaster worm, which surfaced on the Internet in 2003. So don't let down your guard. Patch your PC if you haven't already done so, because this exploit is sure to be the focus of malware authors before long.

Since it's only a matter of time until such attacks become widespread, I urge you to reach out to other Windows users you know to ensure that they're protected from this vulnerability — once you've patched your own systems, that is.
