MP3 FILE
HI
I downloaded an audio file from the net 6 meg
I sent it to audacity and chopped off about 10 mins
I saved the file to mp3 and now find the file is 41 meg !
wot happened ???

My guess is that it was re-encoded at a much higher bitrate. Have a look at the default settings next time and set the bitrate to not change when you do an edit and save the resulting file.

thanks you re probably right
the bit rate was way up ..... 130 plus
I hammered it down to 16 and ended up
with a file 5 .7 megs but the audio (speech )
still seems OK !

For limited frequency bandwidth material like voice only, the bitrate can be pretty low and still be quite useable.
