[RESOLVED] FLASH DRIVE FREEZES UP
I have several flash drives with U3 software which have always worked fine. All of a sudden after I plug them in and open up the Explorer on the flash drive and go to Documents everything freezes up on my PC. I insert the flash drive into my USB 2.0 hub, the one I have been using for quite some time. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

What happens if you plug the drive directly into a port on the computer?

I plugged it directly into the port on the computer and the same thing happened. Everything else I have that I plug into the hub or directly to the pc works fine.
I am at a loss on this one since this has never happened before. I used the same flash drives on my laptop and they appear to be fine there.

The problem exists with and without the hub so that's not the problem.
The drives work on the laptop so the drives aren't the problem.
That leaves the PC. Have you installed software or hardware on the PC lately or had other problem symptoms?

Just an FYI. I can run the software on the flash drive, such as Thunderbird etc. It is just freezing everything up when I click on Explorer from the U3 menu, this is where the Documents folder is. Could it be the USB hub has a problem but then again when I plugged it directly into the back of the computer it did not work either.

Have you applied any updates/patches to the OS? And which OS are you using?

Caoch17 - Please clarify:
* You tested all three drives on the PC (all failed) and all three on the laptop (all worked)?
* You tried exactly the same operation on the PC and laptop (clicked on Explorer from the U3 menu)?
Scarecrowdr - I would suspect the drive too except three failed in exactly the same way at the same time and all three work on one machine but not on another. Seems unlikely.

Uninstall the U3. I have had it mess things up.

Ok, I have uninstalled the U3 software from all six of my flash drives and all my files are now accessible on my desk top and lap top. I saved the U3 uninstall program for future use (if necessary).
I just wish I knew what the problem was. It seems after two or three years everything was fine and then this.
Thanks for everyones response, I appreciate it. This issue is now closed.

A clean install of the U3 might work.
THANKS for posting back.
