[RESOLVED] Cannot start MS Outlook??
Since installing Win Live Mail I get the following mssg when starting MS Outlook:
"Cannot start MS Outlook. Outlook require MS Outlook Express 4.01 or greater. You an install Outlook Express by running IE5Setup.exe from the IE folder located on your CD or through Windows update website."
I deleted Win Live Mail. Outlook Express 6.0 is installed and running, but Outlook doesn't recognize it's there.
Live Mail must have set something in the register.
Your help will be appreciated.

If you simply deleted the Windows Live Mail program folder, instead of uninstalling Windows Live Mail, then:- Reinstall Windows Live Mail:
- Uninstall Windows Live Mail:
- Reinstall Microsoft Outlook
- Visit Windows Update and install at least all of the Critical updates:

Didn't work? I had done an uninstall, not a delete, of Live Mail.
I uninstalled Outlook and reinstalled, and applied updates from win Update. I did restarts between each step. Still got the same mssg, "Cannot start Outlook, etc".
Any other suggestions will be appreciated.

Which Operating System?
Which version of Outlook?
What is the 'exact' (word-for-word) error message?

Operating system is win xp home w/sp3
Outlook version is office 2002, aka office xp, w/sp3
Outlook Express version is 6.0
Exact wording of mssg is:
"Cannot start MS Outlook. Outlook require MS Outlook Express 4.01 or greater. You an install Outlook Express by running IE5Setup.exe from the IE folder located on your CD or through Windows update website."

Are you sure that's the exact error message? Doing a Google search using:and you only get one hit ... which is your thread here on VirtualDr.
A couple of other reasons for asking is because:- Microsoft usually uses the word "Microsoft" instead of the abbreviation "MS"
and
- The phrase "Outlook require" is not grammatically correct. It should be "Outlook requires".

What happens when you start Outlook Express? A registry key indicating OE version may be missing.

The message is "Microsoft" and not MS (I abbreviated).
The message is "requires" and not require. (I misspelled).
Outlook Express starts with no problems and retrieves my Hotmail mail from two accts.

The Techguy forums had the answer, but it wasn't easy!!!
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\ did not have the key {44BBAB40-CC52-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}, but I did find it under the above key, Installed Components\AutorunsDisabled.
I didn't know how to copy and paste or move it from AutoRunsDisabled to Installed Components so I entered a new key with the same data as the one under AutoRunsDisabled.
It works, and I can open Outlook!!!
