    USB versus regular type speakers

I need to get some more speakers for my computer and I have seen the usb type but don't know anything about them. I don't need high powered gaming speakers, so do any of you have any usb speakers? They look interesting. I would be satisfied with just some 2.0 speakers, so obviously I am not looking for or needing a full theatre sound or fancy 7.1 surround sound, just something basic and decent sounding. I will go up to $50.00 if I need to.

    For example:

These look nice ( to me ), and the reviews seem pretty good.

But...I am really interested in any info about usb powered speakers...just different, I suppose, and that is what got my curiosity up...

You might be better off looking for reviews of the USB speakers. As to my experience the pair I had a couple of years ago had sound lag during use on many occasions and required windows to be up and running before any audio occoured but theres nothing to say this has not been improved upon.

Since those usb speakers are fairly cheap, I may just get a pair and see how they work. I had been getting a lot of buzzing from some speakers and I couldn't get the buzzing to stop, no matter what I did, so I un-plugged the speakers. I'm hoping that the problem is with the speakers and not with the on-board sound. So I will start with some different speakers and go from there. I will get a sound card if I have to, but I'll check out those usb speakers first.

I'll let ya'll know how they work.

    I got some usb speakers:

They work okay, just basic speakers with very little base, but I didn't expect anything like a full sound. The only thing that I didn't notice was the need for a stereo mini jack, but I have one so no problem there.

All in all, not a bad little speaker system for $20.00.!
