Bios wont remember
Hi Folks,
Sorry for the lack of info but..............
a pcchips mobo, socket A athlon 2100 (I think) and I cant remember bios name or version, but what ever settings I assign (in particular multiplier speed/ time date setts) will not stick after a power down. It sticks on a "restart" OK though.
Have changed cmos battery with known good batteries, to no avail.
What else might cause this problem?
Many thanks
Phil

Guess at defective mobo,
Since the CMOS battery's job is to provide power to keep the CMOS/BIOS settings.
Cheers.

Let's see....I'm guessing a $20 PSU, along with a $2 CMOS battery and a PCChips motherboard? The mobo is the weakest link here - that brand is not top-shelf.
Be careful of what you call a "known good working battery"- it may have been on the shelf for two years at a low-traffic pharmacy or electronics shop. I've been surprised before, myself.

If there is a bios jumper, make sure that it is in the right position.

Thanks for the responses guys,
Kinda confirmed what I suspected.
I know the batteries I swapped out were good (not new) but good, out of my own machines. And yes it was cheap (and nasty) build, not one of mine I hasten to add! I doubt the psu was even $20
I'm sure I checked the bios jumper, but it was over a month ago when I had the PC here so I can't be sure, but will check it out if I get the machine back here.
Thanks again

Clean the battery and the contacts with a pencil erasure.
I have had that to work.
