Resolved [RESOLVED] Cannot connect to Internet with router

I'm using a DSL internet connection. It is SBC global.net. I have XP as an operating system. My desktop computer can access the internet and sent and receive e-mail with no problems. However when I try to put a router into the hook-up, I cannot access the internet at all. I have tried installing several times, hit the reset button etc., and still can't get on internet.
What settings might I have to change, and where and how do I do it. I have tried 2 different routers and both respond the same. Thank you for all your help. Please be simple, as I am 82 years young, and learning. Thank you. Dick.

You may want to post the make and model of the routers you have. That would help us describe the setup procedures to enter the appropriate settings.

The make of the one I want to keep and use is D-link. Basic. Sorry for leaving that part out.

If you look on the router you will find a model number too.
Now which one of the possible hundreds of them do you have.

    Select your firmware
    http://support.dlink.com/products/re...ductId=DIR-615

And the FAQs may help out.

Provided that you have configured the router for the ISP service,
Check to see if cloning the MAC is required.
    Cheers.

Thank you Train, your advise to connect with support.dlink did the trick. All is well now. Thanks again for all the prompt replies.
