Have you tried very gently trying to pry the tray open? Use somethng that wont mar the faceplate like a plastic knife and don't use more than gentle force until you can grab it and continue to pull gently with your fingers.

Is it possible the dvd is jammed in the tray? With someones help try using gravity to assist. Hold the player face down, give it a bit of a shake and then, while still face down try the knife again. Also try different angle... side facing down.

Also Also.. push the eject button while prying with the knife.

I've had this problem with a DVD player, not recorder, but I pried it opened without concern for marring it, because I was ready to chuck it anyway. Removing the cover of the unit may provide other options. I don't really know the unit so I can't say for sure

Right click the drive & select EJECT?
    Presumably, you did try that.

I would remove the top cover, you should be able to get the tray to release that way without damaging anything. Naturally be sure it's unplugged.

    I already did that.
It looks like a solid box with no way to release the tray.
Also is'nt it dangerous because of the Laser ?

Is it still under warrenty I did read if its true they would service/repair units for two years for free?
Another suggestion I came across was that the laser was stuck in the up position thus not allowing the tray to open and they suggested a slap to the top of the unit to dislodge it.As to the laser it is only of a risk when energised so when disconnected its not an issue to worry about.

    Out of warranty.
I don't think the Laser is stuck because i can record on it with no problems.
If i don't get the Disk out i will have to trash the DVD recoder when the Disk fails.

Well, when I had this problem I took two metal nail files, slid them in on either side of the tray, applied pressure and pulled outward. That worked with my model, but I don't know if it will with yours.

Red face I found a release button that worked

I was trying to pry open as suggested here, then I used my flash light to see why it would not budge. I noticed a small rectangular button like shape under the tray. I pushed it, the tray slid open. Ofcourse I had forgotten to unplug the recorder.

    Smile Eureka!

    I found it!

I have a LVW-5155. The tray does not open.

I found a scroll bar like thing on the BOTTOM of the machine. Just scroll it from the right to the full left, the tray opens. And once that's done, the scroll bar will return to its original place.

    Don't force anything.

Liteon 5045 DVD Drive Tray Stuck

Hi, I also have a liteon, and although it's been pretty good value for money so far, the drive has started to stick.

I removed the cd tray cover (shiny cover on the front of the drive tray) which required quite a bit of force. Just used a flat screw driver, a bit of courage and pried it off.

I opened the case up and removed the drive to take a look. There's a mechanism around the drive which ejects it when you use the remote, or the button on the front panel, and I think this is worn out. You can manually eject the drive by pressing this little plastic lever inwards, which is a few cm from the left on the front of the drive tray.

Anyway, I replaced the drive, and left the front cover off the tray. Now if it gets stuck, I just press eject on the remote, and use a thin stick to press the plastic lever and it opens the drive. It usually works by itself after I help it out once, so I have no idea what the problem is.
