Waiting for javascript:"... in Status Bar

Just today I noticed that when I go to www.bungie.net and www.xbox.com, Waiting for javascript:"... will show in the status bar very briefly while the pages load. It may just have something to do with the sites. I really don't know. The two sites are related though. They are both part of the Windows Live login network, though I don't know what that may have to do with Waiting for javascript:"... showing in the status bar. This may not be the right section of the forum for this, but I just wanted confirmation if this is anything I need to worry about or not. I attached a pic to my post to show what I'm talking about.

I just went to IGN.com and noticed "Waiting for javascript;false..." appears briefly in the status bar while the page loads. I may be over reacting here, but I really don't know why that is showing in the status bar. I would test to see if it comes up on my other computer, but I don't know if its the result of anything malicious or not.

    Just in case that helps.

Forgot to add a screen of what's showing when I go to IGN. I added it to this post.

    First Verify Java Version
    http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

Pay attention so you will NOT install Openoffice or the google toolbar, which ever is offered, as there is a check you need to remove if you do not want it.

Had to update myself and yes, I sourced IGN and there is lots of Java script.

After you update to Version 6 Update 7, Go into Programs and Features and uninstall all older versions.

I don't have Java installed on either of my computers. I've never had it installed. Everything has always seemed to work as it should without it.

That said, is what I saw in the status bar anything to worry about? Is it in anyway malicious? I don't recall seeing it in the status bar before. But then again, I don't just stare at the status bar regularly when I browse the internet, either. I just happened to look down and saw it.

No Java installed, yes it would give that message and do not be surprised if webpages do not look right.

""Waiting for javascript;false..." " means java is not installed is all. Nothing to worry about.

So what about "Waiting for javascript:";..."? I went to bungie.net and xbox.com on a computer with Java installed and still saw that in the status bar briefly.

I just looked at the picture I posted again. It had "Waiting for javascript:false;...". I incorrectly said at first the status bar read "Waiting for javascript;false..." (note location of colon/semicolon). That means the same thing, right?

You are seeing that message because Java is not installed. And I would too, if it was no installed on my computers.

But like I said in post 7, I still saw "Waiting for javascript:";..." on a computer with java installed. Is that because the version that is installed might not be the current version?

Sorry if I've become annoying, I'm just curious about stuff like this.

Java and javascript have almost nothing to do with each other. (There was a very distant common ancestor.)
I do not think installing Java is going to help with anything needing javascript.
The MS version of javascript is jscript. You can get it here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...B-95A22B832CAA
Having said all that, I think the "Waiting for javascript" line in the status bar has to do with the coding on that page. See, for example, http://www.olat.org:8080/browse/OLAT...nager.js?r=1.1 lines 466 and 469.

If you can see and use the page(s) OK I would not worry about it.

Hmm, I'm a little confused now. Train said I was seeing it because I don't have Java installed. But I still saw "Waiting for javascript:";..." on a computer that does have Java installed when I went to xbox.com and bungie.net. Though, I don't see "Waiting for javascript:false;..." when I went to ign.com on that same computer with Java installed. But, Jim, you are saying the messages aren't related to Java.

You do both say it isn't anything to worry about though. I was thinking it might've had something to do with a malicious script on the page or something like that.

So, someone goofed in writing the javascript which can cause that to show also.
Nothing new there, still nothing to worry about.

    Syzich--Sorry I confused you.
But, Jim, you are saying the messages aren't related to Java.
Correct. Java and Javascript are two different things. Here are gory details http://www.dannyg.com/ref/javavsjavascript.html
But as far as what you see in the Status Bar on those pages, there is nothing to worry about.
