    Windows picture fax viewer issue

Photos always open up with windows picture fax viewer and I want to use Windows Picture Manager instead. I have tried to Choose the program permanantly and it still opens in Windows picture fax viewer.
How can I get this program to stop opening my photos all the time on every photo.
Note: My questions may be to help others
    Thanks, JB

Go to your "My Pictures" folder. Select any picture in the folder of type, i.e. .bmp, .jpg, .gif as examples of different types. Right click on the picture. From the drop down menu choose "Open with" then from the sub-menu select "Choose Program . . ." A window will open with Recommended Programs and then Other Programs. Choose Windows Picture Manager from the list. (If it is not present on the list click "Browse" and locate the program.) Then check the box in the window "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file". Click on OK and close the window. All files of this type will open with your selected viewer. Remember if you choose this for .jpg images they will default to this but .bmp, .gif also have to be done by the same process one at a time. Just choose any one pix of type and do the same process if you want all types of pix files to open with Windows Picture Manager.

Done everything from unregistering .dll, to going to file types and not finding jpg so I created it and made it open up with MS Office Picture Mgr. and it never stays in the list after I close it. I tried to do the Open With thing and put a check in the box saying, Always open......., did a regedit tweak that is all over the Internet, tried Kelly's corner tweak to disable Picture and Fax viewer. None of this works. Still opens up in this stupid Picture and Fax viewer.

As a test, you could try renaming the Picture and Fax viewer .exe file to a different name so Windows can't find it and see what happens.

View a pic and see what new program opens up in taskmanager>processes.

Consider "Irfanview", a free viewer and set it as your default viewer. It's more flexible and useful than the Windows viewers.

jonnyb, Try the small, free "Imgeditor" program at the link below.

Change the default image editor application, invoked from Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

    Thumbs up Found the solution...

I have found the solution to the JPG problem of - Unable to display JPG files with 'Windows Picture & Fax Viewer' on a PC, sent from a MAC .
The problem is due to MS Entourage and it setting the encoding option to 'appledouble' instead of just 'mime'.

a Mac user should go to---> Mail & News Preferences---> Compose and change the Encode for: (Under 'Attachments') to 'Windows (MIME/Base64)'.
    Thanks,

I have done everything suggested on Google to restore my bitmap and jpeg association to MS Office Picture Manager and it only happens once. The next picture will open up in Windows Picture & Fax viewer.

Done it all. Still don't work. Maybe I should uninstall Office and reinstall it.
