Spybot incompatability message about Ad-aware
I just got around to installing Ad-aware 2008 on both of my computers today. When I went to run Spybot afterwards, I got a message about a possible incompatability. It was about Ad-Aware possibly finding things that have been removed by Spybot (in Spybot's backup folders). I've known about that since I started using both programs, but I was just wondering why I was just now seeing this message. I don't remember for sure if I saw the message with the last version of Ad-Aware SE before it was discountinued or not, but I know for a fact I didn't see it when I was using Ad-aware 2007.

I'd do one of two things. Burn the spybot backups to a CD in case you ever need them (unlikely in most cases) or stop using Adaware completely which some around here have already done.
I don't recall having seen that message before but it's been a while since I've used Adaware.

IMHO, Ad-aware, and Spybot are tools of the past. At least for now.
One of the things, I don't like about Ad-aware, it runs its service at startup, even when Ad-aware is not actually running.
There is a workaround, but why to hassle?

Yea, I was wondering what the point of the aawservice running at startup was when I started using Ad-Aware 2007. That service is also what caused me a little bit of a headache on my XP machine earlier. After running a scan, a little bit later, I wanted to check a setting I had in Ad-Aware. I got a message from Ad-Aware saying there was a problem with aawservice and I got a System Error 1814. After reading the Lavasoft support forums and some others, it seems this is somewhat common. I uninstalled, reinstalled and ran another scan. I closed Ad-Aware and reopened it again. I didn't get the System Error 1814 message again, but I did notice in the event viewer, the Lavasoft Ad-Aware service terminated unexpectedly again. This only happens now if I scan and then close and restart Ad-Aware again though (doesn't happen at all on my vista machine).
What anti-spyware programs do you use Broni?

SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users:
http://www.superantispyware.com/
Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebyt...are_d5756.html
are probably the best right now.
Workaround for aawservice:
1. Go Start>Run. Type in:
services.msc
2. Find Ad-Aware 2007 Service. Set it to Manual
3. Create start_adaware.bat batch file with the following lines:
@ECHO OFF
Ad-Aware2007.exe
sc stop aawservice
@echo Done
4. Place start_adaware.bat in Ad-aware folder
5. Launch start_adaware.bat to launch Ad-aware 2007
aawservice will be stopped when ad-aware quits
