after boot screen before welcome screen

Just got done cleaning a friends computer of spyware and viruses. The only thing that I can't resolve is a splash screen that shows up after the windows boot screen with the blue bar that goes back and forth and the welcome screen. the splash screen says something about the computer being possibly infected by spyware or viruses. It is just a screen meant to scare you but I need to get rid of it. it shows up for only a couple seconds then the welcome screen shows up. I don't have access to the machine for troubleshooting for at least a week.
