Daizy.. generally heat shows a couple of symptoms. You get a lot of random errors which means the system is getting unstable and or the system freezes up. (system freezes not caused by some software problems or ram etc.) I've found that good cooling eliminates most of these. Modern systems will shut down before critical temps are reached.
True restarts can be caused by software, too. I rarely experience them and I try out a lot of software.
