vista - xp - xp
i have 3 machines that were networked up until i modified my shared area on my vista 64 machine (im not sure if that whats caused it but thats the last thing i did b4 it borked out, as far as i can tell)
vista64 machine - 2 user accounts (no passwords)
default shared folders - i did move the target of the shared music to my F drive (750 gig drive) others i didnt mess with
xp laptop - 3 user accounts (2 passworded)
default shared folders
xp desktop - no user accounts (well boots directly to desktop and i havent created any accounts)
defualt shared folders
all on 'home' network
i could see all the machines when i browsed network neighborhood
any suggestions on what i should try to get this working again?
i was thinking of making a new workgroup with a new name for all the machines when i get home tonite.
thanks in advance

You didn't exactly tell us the reason for your post?? Can some pc's now not see each other?
If you're happy and you know it......it's your meds.

im at work ... but to the best of my recollection ... i was getting an error message from all computers saying something to the effect of
you do not have the appropriate permissions to access this ... contact your network administrator
if theres a 'how-to-network' vista/xp machines for dummies guide that would be awsome
ill post up some screenies from all machines when i get home

You have to change the permissions so they can get into F:

okay ... reset the workgroups but that didnt help. i look for the computers by going into windows explorer, goign down to network neighborhhod, windows something or other and then clicking on the workgroup name (which is home). then after a substantial pause i get the "you do not have the appropriate permissions to access this ... contact your network administrator" error box.
went into the vista machine and clicked share on the f:\music folder and it was a bit confusing. i saw my user name in the box but didnt see anything else (which incedentially is the same in the actual defalut (shared) public areas). there were alot of options ... like creating users etc ... im wondering if i needed to click on the guest account and activate it (which i didnt do with the (shared) public folders that did work)
ill try and get some screenies in this evening
thanks for your time,
running

Do a search for the other computers by name.
That normally works for me.
