hi all
the latest silly thing is the attached error massage, every time i close a program it pop up and force me to log off and re log in, is there ant way i can shut this thing??
thanks in advance
One of the first things I do on an XP install is disable DEP. Has caused no problems on any of my machines doing this.
Be sure you have 'show hidden files and folders' enabled. Open 'My computer'>C:\ . Find the 'boot ini' folder,right click and choose 'open with notepad'. Find the portion of a sentence that says: /noexecute=optin and remove it. Replace it with: /NoExecute=AlwaysOff : Go to the file menu in notepad and click 'save'. Exit file menu and then go back to it and choose 'exit'. Reboot and DEP is dead.

well i have located the boot.ini file, i removed the /noexecute=optin and replaced it with /NoExecute=AlwaysOff , when i try to save it refuse to save and tell me can not save..... so how??
the file looks like this;
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
I approached the file form a deferent angle
Right click my compute
Property
Advance
Startup and recovery
Setting
Edit
Replace the words as mentioned with /NoExecute=AlwaysOff
Save
Reboot
Could be you weren't logged in as admin on the first go-round. But yes, your second method would have been my next recommendation.
Glad you got it done...

Further to my problem above, I had managed to shutdown the DEP but I am still getting error message that window explorer need to close and I have to go to task manager in order to close Dr. Watson to get my laptop out of its freezing condition.
any advice?
