[RESOLVED] USB Storage device-Ghost etc Help
Hello all, try and explain as best as possible.
I used to have in My Computer Drives A to say Z cannot remember.
Problem, i did not use these drives, never did, so a program i downloaded had another use, removing these amongst other things.
I have Norton Ghost 9, try to back-up cannot, as the Drive it used to back up to was G: which is still there, but, now, somehow without my changing it, it has moved to N: drive. Unfortunely it is one of the Drive letters which i removed, all from N to the end.
Tried re-installing Ghost and changing to G: drive, but recognises G:drive as being a CD drive, as well as H, I, J, K, L, M, as being not fixed or present.
I cannot get into my Portable hard drive to Ghost to or erase or whatever, is there a way i can save my image to D: drive (Which is O.K.) then somehow open my Portable Hard drive to copy to?????? Or get back my old Drive letters, or get my computer to recognise G rive as being there, if you get my meaning.
I do not wish to Smart Restore etc, if that is the only way, then will leave as it is.
Unless there is a way to copy/Ghost C:drive to D:, or an online free storage.
Thanks, GEP

Shut down, discannect all but the 2 drives you want to deal with and boot up.
Should be ABLE TO BACK THINGS UP THEN.
Boot up and see if things are straightened out.
Messing with the drive letters can be very hazardous.

Re:Drive problem
Hello Train and all, Quote "Shut down, discannect all but the 2 drives you want to deal with and boot up. Should be ABLE TO BACK THINGS UP THEN."?????????????????? see rest.
The only drives i have are (1) C: (2) D: (3) The portable 40GB which i attach via USB. E & F are DVD Drives When i click on which are NOW CD Drives G:,H,or I, its says, "Please insert a Disk into drive G:, i cannot as it is Not a Hardware drive, like H and above. The other drives J, K, L, M are there, when i click on them, They are Removable drives, it says, please insert a disc.
Not sure what you mean just shuting down and disconnecting drives i have not got, physical ones. C: D:, and portable hard drive are the only physical ones i have that can be disconnected.
P.S. In Ghost when i choose where to back up to, say K, it says, UNABLE to Open, Device is Not ready. G, H, I say, cannot copy to them.
Thanks, GEP

OK, things are messed up.
Let us start over.
Shut the computer down, unplug the power.
Disconnect both dc/dvd devices an all other ide devices.
Boot up, reboot, now check my computer, diskmanager and Device manager to see if either any drive other than C:\.
If all goes well, C:\ will be the only one found.
If it is, shutdown and add the next drive you want . And going through the boot up reboot until you have got everything back where you want it.

Ghost can be told what drive to put your Target Image on
to Save To. It is the first thing you see on the second screen
after you start Ghost to create a Backup Image of your system.

Re:Drive problem
Hello Train, Bruce B, thanks for your replies.
I right-clicked on My Computer, Manage, Disk Management, right-clicked on N:which appeared once a placed the USB drive in, and choose Open.
I will now Ghost to D: and cut to N: via the above route.
The only way that N: appeared so that i could delete the old, and Ghost the New image.
Thanks, GEP
