    Exclamation "System integrity scan wizard" invaded my computer. HELP!

    Hi,
    I saw a post with the exact problem I'm having.
    I get this pop up and it won't go away. I also have a yellow triangle with a black exclamation make in the middle and that box reads :

    Your computer is infected with spyware ! Windows has detected spyware on your pc. It is recommended to update your antispyware to prevent data loss.Click here to download and install the most up to date antispyware for you.

    I also get two red boxes , System Security Warning , possible spyware infection has been detected on your computer by Security System. saying my pc is infected with these :
    Trojandownloader.xs and Abebot C:\WINDOWS\wml.exe,
    To remove detected threat you need to update your PC Antispyware protection. Click here to visit PC-Antisoyware website.

    Here's my problem. Whatever it is, it's preventing me from printing anything or downloading any programs to fight this.

    I ran Spybot and they're asking me if I want to allow certain changes to my system. I don't know if this is a trick by the virus (not sure if that's what it's called) to have me delete important files or should I follow the advice of the program and block these changes?

    Here is my Hijackthis log:

    I'm not a computer wiz, but I can follow directions and go through the right steps, if shown the way. Again, since I can't download any new spyware programs, as instructed by the last post with this problem (which was solved), I don't know what to do.

    I was thinking I should do a system restore to be able to fix these problems, but I have a ton of e-mails. How do I save my e-mails?

    Please help! THANKS!

    Marty

    Hi and welcome to the VDr forums .

    =========

    You have a log full of crap. Please read from the following (including updating hijackthis) and post back. http://discussions.virtualdr.com/sho...d.php?t=167915

    I do not see hijackthis running. Have you renamed it?

    ==

    Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebyt...are_d5756.html) to your desktop.

    * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    * At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    * When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
    * Post the log back here.

    Make sure that you restart the computer.

    The log can also be found here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
    Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt

    Post new HJT log.

    Running Malwarebytes. Will have log soon.

    Thank you for your help. I read on a help site that I should rename Hijackthis, so I named it Crusty.exe.

    I read the instructions on the site and downloaded Bit Defender and AVG Antispyware. I also downloaded (and running now) Malwarebytes. This is what's happening. First, my computer is slowing to a crawl and Firefox will not open. It shuts down as soon as I try to open it. I had to open Internet Explorer to get to this site. Ad-Aware 2007 was running, but that also shut down. I will try to run it again after Malwarebytes is fiinished. I'm a photographer, so there a lot of large photos (5mg) that the program is scanning through. My computer is really screwed up right now. I had Avast Anit-virus running before Bit Defender. Should I unisntall it, disable it? I hope you can help. THANK YOU!!!

    You should always only have one antivirus running at any given time. More than one will conflict with the other(s) and cause all sorts of problems.
    Don't forget to update hijackthis to version 2.02

    Can you please do the following.

    ===============

    You will need to disable Adaware to prevent it from interfering with the fix.
    Right click on the Adaware icon in the system tray and select 'exit.'

    ===============

    Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall the following, if present:

    Viewpoint Manager

    The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

    ===============

    Next, Open a command prompt by:

    1. Clicking "Start", then "Run...".
    2. Enter "cmd" (without the quotes).
    3. Enter "services.msc" (without the quotes).

    -

    Now, locate and 'stop' the following services, if present:

    Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation ... (C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe)

    Look carefully, since the name of the service (above) can be anywhere in the entry; also be careful not to 'stop' any required system services. Once stopped, set this service to disabled.

    ===============

    Run HiJackThis then:

    1. Click "Open the Misc Tools Section"
    2. Click "Open Process manager"

    -

    Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe

    Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

    ===============

    Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

    Firefox opened, which is good news. I just rebooted, so I don't know yet if the popups (System Intergrity Scan Wizard) are still here. I hope not. The computer is faster than yesterday.

    I really appreciate all your help. I have a question. Can you tell me what I should have on computer as far as protection and-or the things you see that I don't need? I deleted the free program (Avast) and I'm running Bit Defender. It's the trial version. Should I pay for it? I've tried to safe money and use free programs, but what's your advice? Can you give me a list of everything I need to protect my computer/. THANK YOU!!!

    Log is clean .
    My personal choice for AV is Avast free. I have used it for the last 12+ months with no problems. I also use Opera to browse the net. IMO it is the most secure browser available atm.
    Following is my canned message for when one's pc is cleared up;

    Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:

    Download CCleaner and install, then run it. It will clear out your temp folders.
    1. Uncheck "Cookies" under "Internet Explorer".
    2. Click on Run Cleaner in the lower right-hand corner. This can take quite a while to run.
    3. Close when finished.

    Secure your Internet Explorer by going here and following the instructions there.

    Better yet, use an alternative browser! Download FireFox and give it a run. It is far more secure than Internet Explorer. Or, you can get Opera which in my opinion, is better still.

    Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables. There is a link to a good, free firewall in my signature.

    Install and keep updated, AVG anti-spyware, Ad-Aware SE and Spybot S&D.
    Run them all on a regular basis, following the maker's recommendations.

    Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.

    Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.

    To help protect your system from <i>hostile ActiveX</i> content, or special '<i>downloadable</i>' files:

    Download, install and keep updated, <a href=http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/sbdownload.html>SpywareBlaster</a>. If you've installed it for the first time:

    1) Check for any available updates; if present, they'll be automatically downloaded and installed.
    2) Next, "<b>Enable all protection</b>".
    3) Exit the program.

    -

    Note: Remember to regularly check for updates.

    Empty the Recycle Bin.

    For XP users.
    After something like this it is a good idea to Flush the Restore Points and start fresh.
    To flush the XP system Restore Points.

    Go to Start | Run and type msconfig and press enter.

    When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
    On the next page, click the System Restore Settings link on the left.

    Check the box labelled 'Turn off System restore'.

    Reboot. Go back in and Turn System Restore Back on. A new Restore Point will be created.

    Note that all previous restore points will be lost.

    ===============

    If you have any more problems, post back.

    Happy surfing,

    Hi Crunchy,
    HAPPY NEW YEAR!
    I just noticed under your name that you're a single dad. Join the group!!! After 12 years, my ex still gives me crap on a daily basis.

    You helped me with a problem a while back and I'm having another similar situation. At first I was getting a continuous popup for a spyware product, but I followed your previous steps and it seems to be gone (spyknight.com). But now, I'm getting pop-up windows that end with " -windows internet explorer." They're all types of pop-ups (mostly dating sites) but also from ebay and other similar sites. I don't use IE; I use Firefox. Can you help?

    Hi and welcome back . Happy new year.
    First thing you need to do is update MBAM. Yours is ancient. Do a full scan when it's updated and delete/quarantine everything it finds.

    Reboot then post it's log and a new hijackthis log please.

    Hi,
    Something is preventing me from downloading the latest version. It hijacks the link and goes to random sites. I've used the "Malwarebytes" update and it says as of 5/24/08, database version 785. What should I do now?

    Marty

    Download on a another computer, change the name and place it on a thumb drive/ cd and install it from there.

    Boot to Safe Mode with networking and try to update. That should work.
