I think Live Search is the default. I must have inadvertantly added the Ask.com BHO at some point.

Ask.com gets on some people computers as drive-by-install, while installing some other programs.

I have the same problem with Ask.com and I downloaded Hijack and ran a scan but I can't find it in the log. Is it listed under some other obscure name?

Go to number 7 in the ask.com FAQ
    http://asksupport.custhelp.com/cgi-b...p_sid=zgLr4c2j

I too had the "invisible" ask.com search engine which was mind-blowingly frustrating. i think it installed itself when my daughter downloaded fun cursors.

I found Hijack this, and other similar spyware downloads unhelpful, cumbersome, and not free as some suggest they are.

Although i think ask are underhand, devious, and i'm sure downright illegal, they did have removal covered in their FAQ, and I have now managed to get rid of it.

    ASK.COM has taken over FireFox

I'm in the same boat. FireFox will not allow me to change my homepage away from ASK.COM. I can make the change in TOOLS->OPTIONS, but when I close FireFox ASK.COM takes over, and the next time I load FireFox, ASK.COM is there once again!?!?!?

IE7 will accept the change, FireFox 3 will not.

    Here's what I have done:
    • Inside my registry, I removed ASK.COM.
I removed the ASK Toolbar from CONTROL PANEL->ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
I used HighJackThis to view BHO's; ASK.COM is not there.
I visited ASK.COM's FAQ....... #7 ("How can I find____?") does not apply.

FireFox just will not let go of ASK.COM!

BTW, no new topic needed, it's still the same thing: ASK.COM.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Where in the FAQ did you find the answer? #7 does not apply

    Thanx for your time,
