    Secure Login/Security Cetificate

Just a little while ago, I went to a site with a secure login that I frequent. After inputting my user name and password, Internet Explorer brings up its page notifying me that the site I just accessed didn't have it's security certificate issued by a trusted source. Just to be on the safe side, I closed the browser and went back to the site, I double checked the security certificate by clicking on the lock icon next to the address bar and it was indeed issued by a trusted source. I entered my user name and password again and didn't get the notification from IE. I changed my password just to be on the safe side, though. Also, I thought I'd mentioin that I navigated to the site by clicking on the link in my favorites, not from a strange link. So, why did I get the notification from IE about the security certificate? Is it just a bug or error in IE?

    IE 7/ XP Home SP2

Thanks for the reply train, but I just went back to the site to check the valid dates of the certificate. It says it's valid from 10/14/2007 to 10/14/2008. Doesn't that mean it would have been updated back in October of last year? Or am I missing something here?

You did not miss anything, but what you posted tells me something got corrupted instead. Still the corruption caused the blowup. Not all that common, but real busy sites at time and adding a jambed up internet can cause to see some right funny things that can drive us right up the wall!

I logged in and out a few times to see if IE would again show me the page about the security certificate not being from a trusted source. I didn't see that, but upon logging out, I got a 403 Forbidden message. So considering that and the info you have given me, it does indeed seem it was the website being buggy in some way.

    Thanks, Train .

EDIT: I went back to the site to login and out again, hehe. Anyhoo, I got the page informing me about the trusted certificate source again. Though, I noticed that the lock icon wasn't by the address bar and when I clicked on the area of the status bar where the lock icon used to be in older versions of IE, it told me "This type of document doesn't have a security certificate".

I also noticed the the lock icon goes away after I enter my user name and password, then comes back up when my account info page comes up(This is when I don't get the IE notification page). So that is possibly why I get the page about the security certificate.

Paranoid? Maybe. I just like to investigate things throughly .
