mem upgrade win 2000 pro/xp
I have a desktop Micro-Star 8366-8233,board MS-6382,bus clock133mh,Award6.00PG{updated years ago]Micro-star says its 5/5.I ha2 mem moduales 0-1g,1-256m,1.4g AMD cpu.the 1g ram is 3200,as well as the new 1g ram im tring to install. The problem is tring to get win 2000,or XP live with it.I've tried,formated...again and again.I keep getting blue screen errors, defferent each time. The 1 that I cannot understand is{Disable bios memory options, such as caching or shadowing}How do I do that!?.I've been in CMOS and can find nothing about it.What is the trick to get 2gig of ram to work?.Or is my motherboard too old or my cpu too slow?.Any ideas or help appricated.I'm pretty computer savvy. Thanks

OK, that mobo was a MSI special made one.
This manual should be real close to yours.
http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?f...42&type=manual
Download it, unzip it and open 6380 LE-2.pdf.
On page 2-7 will show you where those settings are in the BIOS.
Now to get into the BIOS [set up is another name for it ] Boot or reboot the computer and hold the Del key and if you get it right in your timing, you will boot tot eh Bios.

Thanks Train for the book,I used it as a referece. My setup lacked sys.bios cache and shadow.the changes i made i rechanged them back.Win2000 finally accepted the upgrade after several reboots. For awhile I could not get it to fail.I loaded 3 movies, several web pages, and she just purred.I monited my cpu output w/freeramXP.the cpu flukuated 0-100%.But later settled.I think the cpu is reaching it's life span. But as i was writing the reply she failed w/ram dump.So I loaded a movie and a P2P download,so I could write this reply. It's not happy unless it's working hard it seems.I still don't know why it didn't work before or why it's woring now.I'll keep in touch if i get it worked out. Thanks again{smile]

Did you reseat the HSF on the cpu?
But it could well be freeramXP that is the problem. I gave up on those type of programs years ago after I figured out they were more problem than they were worth.

I think I have found where in my Bios to make changes for my mem upgrade."Advanced Chipset Features".DRAM Clock Control, inside here,"DRAM Timing by SPD"=YES,where everything is set to "AUTO".Under "NO",gives you options.1]DRAM FREQ.[MHZ]-HCLK,HCLK-33,AUTO.[2] DRAM CAS Latency-2.5,5,3,2,auto.[3] Bank Interleave-Disabled,auto.[4]Row precharge-3T,2T,auto.[5]RAS Pluse-6T,5T,auto.[6]RAS to CAS-3T,2T,auto[7]Burst Length-4,8,auto.Also Listed inside[DRAM CLOCK CONTROL] is.DRAM Command Rate-2T[1T].Current Host[FSB] Clock-133mhz.Current Dram Freq.133mhz.Current DDR Freq.266mhz.Problem is I don't know what changes ,if any should be made. Please Help.
