Sound Cards
Well my onboard Asus sound quit working the other day so now I am looking for a new card. Its been a long time since I had a actual sound card and the last one I owned seemed to be very hard on my PC. I have a very nice Klipsch 5.1 surround system so I would like to at least get a card that is 5.1 but I really don't want to spend a ton. Any suggestions on a nice card at a good price?

Try this one. Pay a bit extra for the Fedex 3-day delivery, it's almost always a day early. Their office is in California, so you can order by 2:00 PM or so and it'll still usually ship same day.
I'm not saying it's an omen, but reviewers mentioned both Asus mobos and Klipsch 5.1 stereo.

If you just want a good budget card, then I'd recommend the same as lgbpop. If you are into high-fidelity audio or gaming, then go for the Creative X-Fi series, it is simply awesome

I have to agree, I have them in both my desk tops and the sound is awsome with the Z5500 speakers. I am looking for a new set of speakers for my main system and want to use the Z5500's on my back up. I bought a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 card for my girl freinds build and that sounds good also, and is a little cheaper.

It's probably a bit late now, considering that this thread is a year old

Yes i did notice the date, but this information is always good for people who do a search for a X-Fi sound card on this forum.
nforce mobo's don't mix very well with the X-fi card, nvidia and creative blame each other for incapability.
i have fixed (touch wood) my problems (ut3) with the X-fi by replacing a couple of files, lots of other people won't be so lucky.
i know this web site isn' for gamers but i find it usefull in problem solving, goto gamer discussion sites and you get complicated and extreme fixes which sometimes do more damage than good.

I have an NForce mobo, two Nvidia 8800 GTS' in SLI and a X-Fi Fata1ty sound card and had nary a glitch. They've supposedly fixed any and all compatibility issues between Nvidia and Creative...none of which I have experienced since Day One.

I have to agree with Bistro. I haven't experienced a single problem either with my Fatal1ty card and the Nforce mobo on my AMD rig.
