    [Pro] Service Pack 3

Have seen people mentioning XP SP3 a few times now, and to be honest, I hadn't heard of it until a couple of days ago.

I cannot believe I didn't know about it, so here's the questions:

    1) Was there much publicity/hype about it?
    2) Why doesn't it appear as an automatic update or as an option when you go to the MS update page?
    3) If my machine(s) are up-to-date, why are they still showing as SP2?

I know I've been away for a while, but this is silly!

It has not yet been released to the general public, which is why you haven't heard much about it, and why it isn't on Windows Update. My best guess (and that's all it is) is that you can expect it mid-year.

You may also want to wait before installing it once it does come out just in case there are any problems. From what I understand there are some problems with the Vista SP1 that is causing some big problems.

As with any SP from MS, waiting a bit can save you a lot of aggravation.

Thanks Nick - I guess it was other people's typos that was confusing me - one on this forum and 2 in other forums. There is an overview/white paper here which was dated last year which I've just read: http://tinyurl.com/2denpw

Totally with you there Doc, never been a 'frontier' man myself either!
