Resolved [RESOLVED] [XP] Noisy Case fan

Have just replaced motherboard in Acerpower F1 with equivalent Foxconn board as Acer won't supply theirs - (they keep them for warranty work apparently) (but is same board slightly different layout). Foxconn 661MX Socket 478 onboard VGA 5.1 Channel Audio mATX Motherboard

All seems OK except the case fan seems to run at full power all the time and is really noisy to the point of drowning out TV.

Have looked in Bios but cant find any settings to alter speed or temperature cut in/out.

Have connected fan to Mobo as per the instructions that came with board so unless there is a jumper setting I need to change am at a loss why this should be.

CPU according to Bios is running at 45 degrees when idle which seems OK
    (Celeron processor)

As always any and all help will be much appreciated.

I think I would check for a BIOS upgrade. Another option, provided it is supported, is to try SpeedFan (http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php)

Might consider getting a new fan

Have ordered new 80mm fan so will let you know if that works or not.

Also asked Foxconn for suggestions so will post that if I get a reply.

Got room for a 120? They move lots of air and because of the slow rpm, they are quiet.

You could also lower the fan speed with a hardwired device:

Nimo N152B (AMD R5, W11H) and plenty of other legacy systems :-)

    Hi Folks

This is the reply I received from Foxconn

    "Dear,
Thank you for supporting Foxconn product.
The system fan speed can't be controlled on this MB.
It will run at full speed.
    Best Regards!"

Which just goes to prove you guys (and girls) on here are a lot more help and use than manufacturers who are happy for us to buy their products but give minimal back up. Would have helped if they had made half the suggestions you all have.

So keep up the good work and thanks again for your help it is invaluable and much appreciated. As stated have ordered a new fan so hopefully that will work if not will try other suggestions and will post back final resolution.

Manufacturers and the like have to be carefull what they say. If they suggested XZY and you got killed in a car wreck going to get it........Or your pc burnt to the ground etc.....

We on the other hand like a good fire

Yep - point taken I suppose the CYA policy is adopted by most manufacturers.

For a really good PC Fire try using a 'compressed air' spray to blow out the inside of a PC in a room with an open fire burning in the fireplace - flashes across a treat and singes the hairs on your hand - as I once found out but that's another story.

Asked Foxonn for suggestions and got this response

    Dear,
Maybe you can buy a better system fan.
    Best Regards!

    LOL

Well at least they made a suggestion I suppose.
