Removing Ad-Aware SE 106r1
This has driven me to insanity trying to get my Security programs up to date again, so I feel safe surfing again!
I decided today I'd take the plunge and update AdAware to 2007 regardless of all the conflicing information from Kaspersky and the problematic posts on the lavasoft forums.
Evidently, this can't be removed from the Control Panel. (at least: I can't)
This danged message KEEPS appearing:
Wise Uninstall
Could not open INSTALL.LOG file
OK
There is a post on the lavasoft forums on how (supposedly) to do this manually:
http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showtopic=28
I can locate unregaaw.exe no problem. (it doesn't state .exe as said)
When I left click on it: nothing happens.
When I right click and Open: nothing happens.
When I right click and Run As: nothing happens.
AAARRGH!
I have tried this with & without Kaspersky Internet Security version
7.0.0.125dd off and on.
Is there a solution to this other than just sending the program file to a......... far off land, and then installing 2007?
I have read many places NOT to even try installing one over the other.
Any advice much appreciated as always.
Frustrated and worn out.

steve 83--
Consider reinstalling Ad-Aware SE (assuming you kept the original downloaded install file). See if you get those two files back. Then try uninstalling per the Lavasoft forum procedures.
If all else fails, I have attached an unregaaw.exe file but named unregaaw.txt. Rename to unregaaw.exe and see if that works.
it doesn't state .exe as said
???

This is a MESS!
Save Me Welsh Jim, ol buddy?
AAARGH! (again!)
Shut the modem down.
Shut Kaspersky down.
Navigate to my documents/Downloads:
Aawsepersonal.exe
File version 1.0.6.0
4.12MB
Installer information
Error 1721.
There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
Alternate: glue their mouse to the table.
Fatal error
Installation ended prematurely because of an error.
I Surrender! (must have more French blood-lines than I realized)
I am NOT gonna (nor can afford to) do a format C to RID this machine of version 106r!
I guess my ONLY option is to start deleting files/folders, do a search on EVERY SINGLE place I can find and commence deleting things, then try cleaning the registry.
This shouldn't BE this complicated!

What happens when you run the "unregaaw.exe" file that Welshjim attached above?

steve 83--Concerning Error 1721 here is what Microsoft offers
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891985
If that does not help, are you saying you downloaded and then renamed the unregaaw.txt file to unregaaw.exe , but when you left clicked on the file you got a read out of the code you post? When you renamed it, did the icon change to a TV set (or at least something different from a .txt file icon)?
What you posted is actually the code for the unregaaw.exe file, but a left click on a .exe file should not allow you to read it. Maybe it is not possible to reconstitute .exe files sent through the forum by naming them .txt files. Regrets.
It would seem you have little to lose by try the OldApps 1.06 installation. It is not 1.06r, but might work.
If not,
1) Post your problems on the Lavasoft forum. Ask for confirmation that you really do need to uninstall 1.06r before installing AA 2007.
2) It might be possible for me to send you a copy of my unregaaw.exe file by email, if you PM me your email address (I cannot send file attachments through the forum's email system). But I confess that some strange things seem to be going on with your installed AdAware files. And my unregaaw.exe file may not solve the problems.

I owe you *too*many WelshJim!
Always to the rescue!
What an admirablely Great person & I admire you always sharing your many talents.
Not just with me, but with this whole Community.
Give me a day or so and I'l try the Microsoft fix.
While we're at it: like was said, I have an intact copy on my laptop.
Would it do any good to save that to a disc and try to import or replace the one on my desktop?
Mailing me one would be too generous, given that fact.
I think the first thing I'll try is an install from oldapps and see what happens.
It sure couldn't get any worse, could it?

steve 83--Did you ever try the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility?

If AdAware appears on the list, you can highlight and delete.

steve 83--Do them simplest first one by one. Then stop after each and see if you need to go further.
Simplest to Hardest
1) Use Windows Installer Clean up Utility
2) Try the unregaaw.exe file you have imported from your laptop
3) Use Oldapps
4) Post on Lavasoft forum
5) Error 1721

Failure: Lavasoft software sucks!
Jim,
You're such a nice guy, but this isn't your problem, so if you feel like giving up, no hard feelings.
Wow, am I disappointed: mostly with yours truly and to some extent ---> Lavasoft for making this so frapping difficult!
The Windows Cleanup Utility:
The program wasn’t even on the list so that failure was simple enough.
Transferring unregaaw.exe from my (hopefully) intact version on my Laptop and a friend's 'puter:
Access is denied.
Make sure disc is not write protected and the file is currently not in use.
Checked task manager and it was not.
Fixing error 1721:
Uninstall Error
An error occurred while trying to remove Ad-Aware SE Personal. It may have already been uninstalled.
Would you like to remove Ad-Aware SE Personal from the Add or Remove Program List.
YES.
This specific error code is 0x000006ba.
[The RPC server is unavailable].
The Lavasoft folders are still there in Drive C: program files.
I guess I will try to install version 106 from old apps and keep at it.
I am at the point of just manually deleting EVERYTHING I CAN FIND on this desktop that HAS ANYTHING to do with Lavasoft or their sh** program, and Praying it comes OFF the Laptop like it should.
Yep: I have posted multiple help messages on the Lavasoft forums with absolutely no solution (nor replies) from Calamity Jane or other members there.

[Resolved/Dissolved/*Good Riddance*]
For the benefit of any other member who experience this problem with Lavasoft products, here's how I fixed it.
Go to whatever drive you had the Program files on.
Back em up to a disc, just to be safe.
Delete them.
Go to oldapps.com, download Ad-AwareSE version 1_06, install it: then (finally) uninstall the way you're supposed to.
And that is NOT thru the Control Panel.
There is a built in uninstall in the program from the start menu.
My opinion: it's a good idea after that to use CCleaner to clean out your registry.
There will be a LOT of leftovers.
Thanks for all the help fellow Doctors!
Will I install out on the new 26MB version?
psssssft.
When I'm surfing on a Tricked out, maxed out Mach V!

steve 83--Thanks for passing on the good information and news. (It sort of is what I suggested in Post #2, but you fleshed out the details. Nice going!!
