Outlook 2000 to Mozilla Thunderbird

I have saved a .pst fie on a flash drive from Outlook 2000 on an old computer.
I am now going to use Mozilla Thunderbird for my emails. I tried to import the pst file which I had saved to the desk top but I could not import it. Is there a way I can do this?

Note:

You could import from Outlook similarly. However, many times there are less problems if you import the messages from Outlook into Outlook Express, and then import them from Outlook Express into Thunderbird.
