    how to combine outlook email

    Hiya,

This should be an easy one, but I don't want to mess it up.

I have an older pc with outlook with Lots of email in various folders.
I have a new pc with outlook with some email in the inbox, sent, trash folders etc.

I would like to set it up so that the new pc has a folder named 'old email' in outlook wherein i can put all my old email still in its old folder structure. 'sent' inbox' ' trash' etc.

I want to keep separate all the old stuff from all the new stuff, but I want to be able to easily access the old stuff.

Can someone of you fine fine folks tell me how to go about this without overwriting anything?

    Thanks in advance!
    Christopher

Helping People--It may depend on what version of Outlook you use.
I use Outlook2007. There you click Tools|Account Settings|down at the bottom left click Change Folders. You can add Old Email (or whatever) to your list of mail folders.
Now you have to transfer the old Outlook folder from the old PC to the new PC. There are several ways of doing that. One way would be to use a USB flash drive. Once you have transferred the data to the new PC (and noted its location), click Outlook File|Import and Export|highlight the line "Import from another program or file" and follow directions. You of course want to direct the old mail into the folder you just set up.

    Okay thanks Welshjim,

Yea, I think its going from office 2003 to office 2007 (its for a customer.)

and I didnt see a way to choose where to put the imported files. thats what had me confused.

I'm going back over to work on it on Fri am. I'll take another look then, and will look at creating a new file as you mentioned.

    Thanks again!

It does not matter where you put the transferred folder when you first transfer it.
Once it is on the Outlook 2007 PC, you follow the directions below.
Outlook File|Import and Export|highlight the line "Import from another program or file" . You would then click Next|highlight "Personal Folder File (.pst)"|Next and the next window should allow you to Browse to the place you have transferred the Outlook 2003 mail folder.

Helping People-- I neglected to mention one thing. Once you have transferred the Outlook 2003 folder to the PC which has Outlook 2007, rename that folder to the exact same name you have (or will give) the newly created folder in the Outlook 2007 list of mail folders. Otherwise you may indeed replace the existing Outlook 2007 folder with the Outlook 2003 folder when you perform the import procedure.
