Re:External Hard Drive
Hello All, i usually Ghost onto my external hard drive. Uses Drive G.
Went to Ghost today, now it cannot find the drive.
It is a 40GB USB2 external hard drive, never had any problems before with it, just does not recognise it in G, or any other drive. Turned the computer off, changed usb posts, refreshed it.
It's a Packard Bell 40GB ext H/D, model no:MS-25U2
XP media centre PC SP2. 2x200GB H/Drive
Happy 2008 to you all.
Thanks for nay help, GEP

Re:External Hard drive problem
Hello Broni and all, it is listed, but not G.
It is listed as N Drive.
Problem, my drives only go upto M, No N.
How do i get N, or how do i get it back to
G????
It also shows as N in Norton Ghost.
Thanks for your reply, GEP

Which one is it, then?

Seems to me the drive got picked up as N:\ instead of the normal G:\
So if G:\ is open, change it back. Control Panel>Adm Tools>Computer Mgmt>Disk Mg, Right click and change the drive letter.

Re:External Hard drive problem
Hello Train and all, it only gives N and above, not below N, except for C and D.
I have deleted N to z or whatever awhile ago.
Just had a look at a program i have called Tweak, it showed that i had unticked it. I have Reticked it again, apply, but still not showing in My computer, having Restarted my computer.
I can get it in Disk Management by rt clicking and choosing explore.
Would like to be able though to get it through My Computer.
Anything else i can do.
Thanks, GEP

Try this.
Leave the external hooked up.
shut the computer down.
Wait one (1) minute, then boot back up.
I know sounds weird, but I have sween that fix a lot of headaches over the years. Just there are no guarante that, that trick will fix things. But, it is worth a try.

Re:External Hard drive problem
Hello Train and all, did restart the computer, then i turned it off for over a minute. Still no N drive. Looks like that Tweak done a good job.
Anyway, i managed to Ghost to the N Drive by, Disk management, right clicked it, choose Explore, deleted the old Ghost copy, and Ghosted a Verified copy onto my External drive. It works ok, so at least i have a copy of my C: & D: drives.
Have a copy of XP Pro, pity i could not restore just the drives from that.
I have smart restore, but do not wish to do any restore at all.
Pity there is not an easier way.
My fault as usual, trying to free up to much of my hard drive and removing things needed, though, did not think that my computer could change drive letters from G to N.
Hope it does not change C: to P or whatever, i might be in a lot more trouble, lol.
Happy new year to you and all, thanks all for your help through 2007.
GEP

Your Welcome! Now you know why I and a lot of others just do not try to do a real picky cleanup.
