    [32] Vista Tips n Tricks

Ok...made the plunge and installed Vista Ultimate on both our main computers in the house. What tips and tricks do the varying Drs. offer.

Out of the box what tweaks are suggested for the best performance?

Installed Saturday...so far so good on both machines but with every version of Windows it can always be better.

    TIA

    Kazz

Sarrkazztic--You may also want a book on Vista. Good ones are
    Vista Step by Step http://www.microsoft.com/MSPress/books/9362.aspx
    $16.50 at Amazon.
Or more technical, Vista Inside Out http://www.microsoft.com/MSPress/books/9361.aspx
    $33 at Amazon.

Books? They still print those things? Horrible waste of paper since the advent of the Internet :-)

I will check out Black Vipers site....I should have known that would be the place to look....The good Dr used to have a list of XP tips n tricks around here someplace....I kinda hoped we could recreate that magic with vista.....

Back in the days of WinXP (which I still run) Black Viper caused a lot of controversy with very aggressive recommendations to turn off certain services. The Elder Geek was originally almost as drastic in his recommendations.
Then the Elder Geek toned down his recommendations. In fact, his latest site is quite negative about turning off Services unless you know exactly what you are doing. See the red paragraph at the top here
    http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm
Services have many dependencies, which you can see by right clicking the Service|Properties|Dependency tab (at least in Win XP).
I mention this as a caution to those following Black Viper's recommendations for Vista. Since I do not run Vista, I have not read those recommendations.
