Monitor
Have a monitor that this evening presented a new problem.. After sitting idle for a couple hours it developed a thin white line across the screen leaving the upper & lower portion black... after turning off for three minutes, and turning on the problem was corrected......... CRT NEC Multisync FE950... Personally I believe its dying....... Any thoughts,, Thanks,,,,,

Saw a Viewsonic do the same type thing years ago. After a week or so, that thin white line suddenly shrunk to a bright white dot in the middle of the screen, heard a crackling noise and that was it ... tits-up, ("total inability to support usual performance").

There is a fault in the Vertical Deflection. Coming good as it did may indicate a bad solder joint, although other causes such as a failing Vertical Output IC can cause the same symptom. If you value the monitor, take it to service now and the repair may not be too costly. If it is caused by something like a failing solder joint, the fault can recur, and if you persist in trying to use it in that condition, damage components, which makes the repair more costly.

This thing is close to 6 years old...... Has an excellent display otherwise... Maybe putting it out to pasture, and ending its ailment is due.......... Thanks for the insight.......
