[RESOLVED] Virus protection needed
My year long subscription to Norton is about over.Anyone have any suggested free virus protection downloads and or anything else that will help? I am running Windows XP Home Version and the browser I am using is the latest Mozilla Firefox.Do I need to download another firewall or is the XP version OK?
Thanks

Do a search in this forum for "best antivirus" or "free antivirus" and you'll get a number of usefull hits. There's Avast, Antivir, AVG which are all free (I'd suggest Avast of all those but they all have fans)
As for a firewall the one in XP isn't great. Zonealarm is regarded highly, Kerio/sunbelt is good, Comodo is good too (I use it but some have had annoying little problems with it).

Uninstall Norton through add/remove programs then reboot.
Then download and run the Norton Removal tool from

Reboot and watch your computer speed magically increase dramatically!
I use AVG and love it!

If you check around at Staples, CompUSA and other stores, you will find that they have advertised specials where you can purchase Kaspersky Internet Security (KIS) and get a 100% rebate, so your total cost for a one year subscription is the sales tax charges.
CompUSA had such a sale on Friday, November 23. Do a search here at VDR for Kaspersky and you will find links, so that you can find out if you can still make that purchase.
Cheers,
Linda

Thanks everyone for all the help ! I loaded AVG anti virus,Zone Alarm firewall and cleaned out Norton. An added benefit was a return to normal boot up speed.I have been having problems for some time with a very slow boot up.Once Norton was removed boot up returned to normal.
