Samsung uses inferior third party panels??

I have owned a few LCD monitors so far and Samsung has been the best looking one I have bought. I recently decided to try a 19" widescreen LG monitir but I noticed some ghosting during games and movies even though it has a 2ms response time. I decided to go to a 22" Samsung monitor since my 19" Samsung has such a great display. I was just about to go out and purchase my new LCD panel and I decided to make a few calls first. I got a guy from Best buy that knew his monitors and explained some info to me that I found pretty shocking. He claims that the BW series from Samsung uses one of three different screens, one being made by Samsung and two that are not. He said that the two that aren't have a noticable difference in quality and possible ghosting problems. He tells me the only way to tell is to take the screen apart and look at the numbers on the back of the screen. He then goes on to tell me that they sell a CW model that is exclusive to Best buy that will gaurantee a true Samsung display but that monitor is $30 more. Now the question is, was this guy just trying to sell me a more expensive monitor or is this true? If I did get the BW series and got one of the two inferior screens what could I do at that point and would the screen even be that much different for me to notice? I play a couple online games and watch movies but I am no graphic designer or anything. Should I even worry about it or just spend the extra money for the CW screen and set my mind at ease?

As one of the world's largest flat panel makers, it seems highly improbable that they would source the panels from anyone else. It sounds like pure BS to me.

I did some Google searches and found that this is actually very true.

Someone from BB who know anything about ANYTHING about computers is a rarity. Harsh, but that's my experience. I agree with Nick.

Who would have thought a BB saleman had a brain or knew the stuff he was selling. That is almost as shocking as getting a rebranded Samsung screen for top dollar!

It's down to the panel, Samsung make their own and then ship them off to other companies, chances are if it had a quoted response time of 2ms, the ghosting is down to the panel, the 2ms would be G2G, and taken with a cup of salt. Probably a TN panel, but it's easy enough to tell, they all have their advantages, and you can pick up the identifying feature with a half-decent calbration tool (Software).

    What were the models?

The thing with the BW's is that Samsung made it a panel lottery and you can tell by looking at the sticker on the back, there was an A model and an S model, one was superior based on response time (2 vs 5) and slightly more backlight bleed on the A model, the quoted response time was a little off, and the S was superior by about 10%.

All I can do is throw in my 2¢ worth because I own the 19" wide screen 906bw at 2ms. I've had it for several months and have never been happier! I bought one for my Daughter, and she too is very happy with hers.
As far as Butt Buy is concerned? Don't get me started!
    Stupid question? No such thing!
